MAY BEAUTY LOWDOWN

Having gone on holiday, half of May has been a whirlwind of travel-size products and bits and pieces. But with a lot of items on my wishlist and visiting every Space.NK on my way, I quickly picked up three little helpers that have been my skin-saviours for the past week.

Unfortunately my skin has been going pretty crazy recently - it's gone from being extremely dry to oily, which is something I never imagined happening. Because this meant I was using far too oily products, I have been suffering not only with hormonal breakouts, but also with an oily T-zone.  While the spots won't be going away anytime soon due to having gone off the contraceptive pill (which causes all sorts of hormonal imbalances for up to a year), I have already seen incredible improvements to my skin.

First up are the Retexturizing Pads by Cane + Austin; lots of my friends suffering from severe acne had previously raved to me about these pads, and boy were they right. Packed full of 10% glycolic acid they help to give your skin a thorough exfoliation, something I felt my skin desperately needed. I use these every other evening and make sure to apply foundation and/or moisturiser with an SPF in the morning, because they tend to take away the protective layer of the skin.

Another spot treatment is the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. Now this product has been on my radar for quite some time. With blogs and magazines giving it top reviews, I was very curious to try it, so when I stumbled upon it at Harvey Nichols in Manchester, I couldn't help but quickly carry it to the till. Even though it's not one to use day and night (unless you want to walk around with pink paste all over your face), it's an incredible product that sorts out any oncoming spots overnight. I was amazed at how well it works and it will certainly be one of my secret weapons in the ongoing battle against bad skin.

All the spot fighting can be a bit too harsh for my skin, so the Ren Evercalm Anti-Redness Serum is a great product to calm things down again. Even though my skin is much more normal and less sensitive at the moment, I need to be careful not to be too rough. This serum smells divine, isn't too rich and is perfect day and night.
