Coming Up Roses - The Evening Before

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and although I don't put much importance on said date or day, I thought I'd share some of my personal "treat" beauty products with you - as it's supposed to be romantic and celebratory of love, the obvious pink/rose theme is very much present, so don't judge.

First up is the night before edit: Whether you're going on a date with a loved one or spending your evening on the couch eating chocolate, it's important to look after your skin and prep yourself for the big day. As my skin has been in need of some TLC recently, I'm bringing out the big guns.

After taking off my makeup and cleansing my face with the Emma Hardie Amazing Face Natural Lift and Sculpt Moringa Cleansing Balm (they couldn't have come up with a longer name!), I gently exfoliate my skin with the Aesop Purifying Facial Exfoliant Paste to get rid of any dead skin - containing both a manual exfoliant of finely milled quartz and a chemical exfoliant of lactic acid, it's the perfect product to kick-start your skin's surface and give you baby bottom soft skin.

Now that my skin is prepped for masks, I apply a thin layer of the Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque with a MV Organics Mask Brush - but any old makeup brush will do. This mask packs a punch so if you have very sensitive skin, another more mild clay mask may be advisable. To create a relaxing atmosphere during the wait for the mask to dry, I like to light a candle - to continue the "pink" theme, I've chosen my Diptyque Rose Candle, which smells just like freshly cut roses from my mother's garden.

Once the mask has dried, I wash my face with a damp cloth to remove any residue. Now usually I would call it a day, but seeing as though it's Valentine's Day the next day and we're not messing around, applying a second mask is mandatory. Although the Aesop mask isn't at all drying, I like to apply a more moisturising one next - the Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask soothes the skin and leaves it moisturised. As with the previous mask, applying it with a brush ensures an even distribution and ensures that you're not wasting any product.

By now my skin feels soft and soothes and is more than ready for a rich oil. As I'm currently struggling with congested skin, I apply the Pai Organics Copaiba & Zinc Perfect Balance Blemish Serum, which acts as an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory barrier and gently battles any breakouts. Of course, I also apply the Aesop Control Gel as a spot treatment on any angry and infected spots.

Now it's about time I applied some oil. Currently, I'm testing the MV Organics Rose Plus Booster, which contains rosehip oil, camella oil and Bulgarian rose oil - especially rosehip oil is famous for its regenerative powers. The oil is not cheap, and I'm still sceptical as to whether or not it's better than Pai's famous Rosehip Biogenerate Oil, but I can certainly vouch for the beautiful scent and consistency and was happy to see the oil sink into the skin immediately.

Which beauty products do you use before a special day/date?
